We asked our editors to pick a memorable Champagne book that they've worked on. This week's editor is Kelli Keith.
Her pick of the week is...
Black Mingo Creek by Chuck Walsh
Here's what Kelli had to say about it:
What the book is about in a single word? Redemption. Although, most would probably disagree and say it is about revenge. Black Mingo Creek is the story of a man who’s been stripped of everything he ever loved and his journey to make things right.
Readers of action or thriller genres would love this book. It’s a page-turner filled with complex characters set in a swamp where nothing is as it seems.
I was impressed with the emotional complexity of the
characters. Chuck has a gift for making the reader feel what the characters
feel. I’m not normally an emotional reader, but I have to admit the story made
my heart pound and a few tears fall from my eyes.
A favorite moment in the book? Oh goodness, don’t make me choose! I have to be vague to avoid spoilers, but two characters make amends after a decade (or so) at odds. It is a moment so real and raw … it is a testament to how much we, as humans, can let pride and/or ego interfere with our relationships.
Black Mingo Creek can be purchased here or here.
Kelli has been with Champagne Books for 2.5 years. When she's not editing, she's ax throwing and spending time with her cats.
